In concrete construction projects, Film-Faced Plywood (Formply) is valued for its outstanding strength, smooth surface finish, and water resistance. However, achieving maximum reuse cycles and maintaining structural integrity depends heavily on how panels are stored, handled, and maintained throughout their lifecycle on site.

As a quality-driven manufacturer and exporter of engineered wood products, Roggewood provides practical, fact-based guidelines to help contractors preserve panel quality, reduce material wastage, and improve overall cost efficiency.

1. Proper On-Site Storage Practices

Improper storage is a primary cause of premature warping, edge swelling, and resin degradation before panels are even installed:

Flat Stacking & Ground Elevation: Always stack panels flat on level ground. Use timber bearers (dunnage) spaced at equal intervals (typically 50–60 cm apart) to elevate the stack off the damp ground and prevent sag or permanent bow.

Weather Protection: Keep stored panels in a dry, well-ventilated area. If stored outdoors, cover stacks with waterproof tarpaulins while leaving airflow gaps beneath to prevent condensation buildup and moisture entrapment.

Protection from Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to intense UV radiation can weaken surface phenolic films and accelerate veneer drying, leading to surface micro-cracking over time.

2. On-Site Handling & Application Standards

Lifecycle Phase Key Operational Requirements & Technical Standards
Cutting & Edge Sealing When cutting or drilling panels on site, use sharp, high-speed tungsten carbide blades to avoid edge fraying. Re-coat all exposed wood edges immediately with waterproof acrylic or alkyd paint to prevent water absorption.
Release Agent Application Apply a thin, uniform coat of chemical release agent before each use. This prevents wet concrete from sticking to the film layer, facilitates easy stripping, and extends total panel service life.
Stripping & Handling Avoid dropping panels from elevated structures during striking. Use wooden wedges rather than metal crowbars to detach panels gently, preventing surface scratches and corner damage.
Cleaning & Repacking Clean panel surfaces immediately after removal using water and plastic stiff brushes. Inspect boards for damage, perform minor edge repairs if necessary, and re-stack horizontally for subsequent reuses.

3. Quality Assurance at Roggewood

To withstand demanding job site conditions, Roggewood film-faced plywood is manufactured using full-core hardwood or poplar veneers bonded with Weather & Boil Proof (WBP) phenolic glue, finished with high-density phenolic film and 4-edge factory sealing.

Following correct storage and handling protocols ensures maximum formwork reusability and superior concrete finishes. Contact the Roggewood engineering team for technical datasheets, storage recommendations, or product inquiries.
